How We Met
Like many modern love stories, theirs began with a swipe on Hinge in 2022. A conversation with a childhood friend had led Driphus to a very specific prayer to God about the wife he wanted to dedicate his life to, and little did he know Bria was also doing the same. God’s timing worked out for the better and a simple swipe right kickstarted a journey that neither of them would forget.
From the start, it was clear they saw the world a little differently. Bria thought he was incredibly serious and suspiciously immune to her jokes (tough crowd) while Driphus thought she was, in his words, “pretty as hell” a fair trade I guess. Their first date was in Bria’s words “the most thoughtful date she had ever been on”. With careful intention, Driphus planned a full day: they explored the LACMA museum, shared dinner at the Cara Hotel, and ended the night watching the sunset at Griffith Park. That was the moment Bria knew he was someone special.

The Proposal
The proposal happened in Houston, Texas, cleverly disguised as a weekend getaway to celebrate Driphus’ birthday. Bria had no idea what was really in store, although, to be fair, her intuition started tingling about an hour before. When she arrived at the museum to meet him, she felt a mix of excitement and nerves. She didn’t say a word to anyone, but when Driphus reached for her hand to lead her inside, she spotted the clear outline of a ring box in his back pocket. That’s when she thought, this man planned everything down to the “t”… except hiding the ring box. Her heart started racing.
The proposal took place inside the Dan Flavin light exhibit, which felt beautifully symbolic, bringing them full circle to where it all began on their very first date at a museum. As they walked through the glowing lights, Driphus told Bria how much he loved her, and she was screaming on the inside, is this really happening right now?!
At the end of the exhibit, he reminded her of the promise he had made when they first started dating: “If I'm choosing, I'm choosing you.” Then he got down on one knee and asked the question that changed everything: “Bria, will you marry me?” Without hesitation, she replied, “Absolutely. Yes.”
